Young Mother Speaks Out After ‘Cryptic Pregnancy’ Shock: ‘People Online Say The Most Ridiculous Things’

by Gee NY

A 24-year-old mother is challenging public perceptions and online criticism after revealing she had no idea she was pregnant until just weeks before giving birth, a rare condition known as a cryptic pregnancy.

Tawana, whose story gained attention through a video shared by the Instagram account Truly Casting, says her experience has been widely misunderstood, with many questioning how such a situation could occur.

According to Tawana, she experienced none of the typical signs associated with pregnancy. Her stomach remained flat, and she did not have a menstrual cycle due to long-term contraceptive use.

It was only about four weeks before delivery that doctors informed her she was expecting.

Until then, she says, she had continued her normal lifestyle, including drinking and socializing, completely unaware she was carrying a child.

Critics online are accusing her of irresponsibility and even calling her fitness as a mother into question. Tawana, however, has pushed back against those claims, insisting that her experience is real and more common than many realize.

She said in the video:

“People online say the most ridiculous things. Like let me even tell you what they say because it’s actually crazy: ‘To be honest, this sounds like a lie’; ‘How could you not know that you’re pregnant a whole nine months without your period? You obviously knew’. Well, I didn’t know because I was unconscious… I was like on the IUD, which was like the arm implant. So I had that in my arms since I was like 16. So I just didn’t have a period.”

Cryptic pregnancies, though rare, are medically documented cases where individuals remain unaware of their pregnancy until late stages or even labor.

Now raising her nearly three-year-old daughter, River, Tawana admits that motherhood did not come naturally to her at first. Thrust into parenting overnight, she had to adapt quickly to a role she had not anticipated.

Despite this, she says she has built a strong bond with her child and is learning to navigate motherhood in her own way.

Her decision to speak publicly is driven by a desire to raise awareness and support others who may face similar situations.

By sharing her story, Tawana hopes to challenge stigma and encourage more open conversations about unconventional pregnancy experiences and the realities of young motherhood.

While the backlash has been difficult, she remains firm in her message: that her daughter is healthy, loved, and thriving.

Her story highlights not only the complexities of reproductive health but also the evolving understanding of what motherhood can look like in a digital age where personal experiences are often scrutinized in the public eye.
