ABC series “Queens,” starring Brandy, Naturi Naughton, Eve and Nadine Velazquez, has been canceled after just one season.
The series was much-hyped, but after its October premiere, the show failed to dazzle its audience, failing to pull in the viewers. The series averaged almost 1.9 million in total views and had a 0.5 demo rating.
In the series, Eve stars as Brianna aka Professor Sex, Naughton stars as Jill aka Da Thrill, Velazquez is Valeria aka Butter Pecan, while Brandy stars as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics.
“Queens” centers on four estranged and out-of-touch women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to “recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had as the Nasty B—ches – their ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.”
The show faced a minor setback when Eve exited the show after announcing her pregnancy. At the time, “Queens” creator Zahir McGhee spoke with Deadline about whether Eve would return. Her character was written out mid-season.
“When Eve told me she was pregnant, we were extremely happy for her. I had just had a baby myself. I didn’t know what she planned for the show, but instinctively I asked if she wanted Brianna to be pregnant,” he told the publication.
“That’s when she told me she didn’t and that she had a date set to leave. The cast and crew wanted to give her the space to enjoy this incredible time. We will continue to build the story as people will see in episode 9 and she will remain present in the minds of our characters. Since the beginning, she’s been Queens’ third partner and she’s in this for as long as she wants to be in it.”
Viewers will never get to find out what happened to Brianna after she faked her own death.
