Amanda Seales has responded to the backlash from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. after her character, Tiffany, repped the sorority in the debut episode of the final season.

“You all may have Googled it, and then this site, answerstoall.com, answers to some, because you got these answers wrong this time, saying s—t that ain’t true,” Seales begins in the video posted to Instagram.

Tiffany rocked a $3,000 pink and green Gucci outfit. The sorority’s colors are salmon pink and apple green. Tiffany also rocked a cardigan with an “A,” for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., much to the dismay of some of the viewers. Tiffany later asked Molly, a fellow AKA, if she would take part in a sorority activity.

“I am not a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. My school, SUNY Purchase, didn’t even have a chapter. And by the time I went to grad school, I was too involved in the Me Phi Me of it all,” she continued.

“But also they do say here that I won a Pulitzer. So, I mean, who knows? That was a nice mistake. I mean, and I would be honored to be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, but I simply am not. When I am Tiffany, I do wear the letters with pride, and regard, and respect for those who did cross the burning sands.”

Seales also addressed the outrage on her Instagram Story:

“I don’t know why people keep asking me I’m a soror. I am not a soror, Tiffany is a soror. Tiffany is a character on a TV show, I’m didn’t write the character, I play the character. I’m not a soror I’m an actress.”

Twitter was divided.

Seales made it clear that she is just in character and she has never personally claimed to be an AKA.

Show creator Issa Rae responded to the backlash using her trademark wit:
