Singer and actress Andra Day has shot down rumors that she is dating Hollywood megastar, Brad Pitt.
“We’re not dating. We don’t even know each other. It is hilarious. It was thin air. Somebody was bored that day,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Oh my gosh, child … we’ve never met.”
On Sunday night, Day took home the Best Actress award at the BET 2021 Awards.
The rumors began after she was reportedly spotted with the “The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” backstage at this year’s Academy Awards.
Day won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Billie Holiday. She was also nominated for an Oscar for the role.
“I’m drawn to fierce, strong, Black women,” she told WWW magazine. “And not just for our fight. We are fierce and strong in so many different ways. I think it’s interesting when people think femininity is very delicate and soft. I mean, femininity is super strong! There are layers to us, and we are all different. I like to see us in spaces where, traditionally, we haven’t been represented.”
Filming for the movie began in October 2019. Director Lee Daniels was initially hesitant to cast Day, because of her limited acting experience. He was convinced after her acting coach sent him an additional clip on his iPhone.
Day shared how she was able to maintain a balance while remaining in character (most of the time) while portraying the jazz singer.
“Prayer has been a huge part of trying to find that place of balance again and identifying who I am and who I’m supposed to be in this particular season,” she said to the publication. “There are aspects of Billie that will never go away, and there’s a large part of me that doesn’t want her to. I’ve been here for three years, and then all of a sudden, it’s like, ‘Okay, go be you now.’ Therapy is not a scary word for me. After all the press is over for this, I am going to go talk to someone to make sure everything is copacetic up here.”
