Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is setting the record straight after critics questioned the legitimacy of her impressive rebounding statistics during her standout rookie season in the WNBA.
The 22-year-old made history by recording the longest double-double streak in WNBA history, becoming a 2024 All-Star and finishing the season with 13.1 rebounds per game, the highest average in the league.
She also tallied 13.6 points per game and ranked second overall in total rebounds with 446.
Despite those achievements, some have downplayed her success, claiming that her high rebounding numbers are inflated because she often grabs her own missed shots—especially on layups.
The criticism, which has followed her throughout the season and into the offseason, has focused on her scoring efficiency.
On Friday, Reese addressed the criticism through a post on X (formerly Twitter). She reposted a fan’s message that included a video compilation of her rebounding highlights with the caption:
“3 min clip and not one of these off her own misses lol that narrative is so dumb.”
Reese’s repost of the video indicates her frustration with what she sees as an unfair and inaccurate narrative.
As the conversation around her game continues, Reese is taking steps to improve. She has reportedly been working with WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who has committed to helping her polish her layup technique.
Reese also recently competed in the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league, where she dominated defensively and earned the title of Defensive Player of the Year.
Though some critics remain focused on her shooting, Reese’s historic rookie campaign and offseason training suggest she is determined to grow as a player—and to prove that her success on the court is no accident.
