Angela Bassett sat down for an interview recently where she revealed which actresses she would be happy you play her if they ever made a biopic about her life.
Speaking with ABC Radio Networks’ Candice Williams, she mulled over the prospect before giving Williams her answer.
“I don’t know, there’s so many phenomenal young actresses out here today,” Bassett said.
“There’s, you know, the incredible Anika Noni Rose and Naturi Naughton and on and on and on,” she continued. “Just beautiful. And that’s just two of a list of many, just beautiful, sisters. I appreciate their work [and] love them,” the 911 star continued. “They can play me, if they so choose to….bring more talent to the table.”
Bassett has played some iconic roles over the course of her career, despite suffering a harrowing experience during her childhood.
Back in October 2019, the award-winning actress revealed that she had been molested by her mother’s boyfriend when she was just a teen.
“Fortunately, it wasn’t a complete assault, it was fondling, but it was devastating enough for a child who’s 12 or 13,” Bassett said at the Rape Foundation’s Brunch. “And thankfully to have a mother who could tell as soon as light broke that this happened and for her to expel him…. That she heard me, believed me, and did something about it was so empowering for me as a young teen, as a young woman.”
Fortunately, her mother was highly supportive through her traumatic time.
“Thankfully, to have a mother who could tell as soon as light broke that this happened and for her to expel him,” Bassett said at the time. “That she heard me, believed me, and did something about it, I think was so empowering for me as a young teen, as a young woman.”
