Former “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” star Apple Watts has opened up about the terrifying car accident that nearly claimed her life in March 2022, revealing that she was driving under the influence of alcohol.
In a raw and emotional interview with Soft White Underbelly, the reality star revealed shocking details about the crash, her injuries, and the role alcohol—and her friends—played in the life-altering event.
Reflecting on the March 2022 crash with Mark Laita, Apple Watts revealed, “I was a little buzzed, but it was hours later. I guess I fell asleep and ran into a truck… I was going 90 miles per hour.”
The impact caused her automobile to flip many times and catch fire. Watts had a crushed back, broken arm, and fractured skull. After being transported to Las Vegas University Medical Center, she was in a coma for four months.
In the interview, Watts admitted that she had been drinking heavily before getting behind the wheel that fateful night. The revelation came with a wave of emotions as she explained why she had kept this detail private for so long.
“I kept this secret because I knew people would judge me,” she said, holding back tears.
Watts also expressed deep frustration and disappointment with those who were with her that night. She explained that her friends, who had seen her intoxicated, allowed her to leave and drive despite her condition.
“Everybody knew I was drunk. They saw me leave,” Watts revealed. “The cold part was I had somebody in my car, and they knew I was drunk. They let me leave. I dropped her off, and she said she didn’t want to get into any confrontation with me.”
However, she acknowledged that her quick temper led them to avoid getting involved with her behaviors.
“Cause one thing about me, if I’m buzzed and I feel you coming at me funny, I’m gonna go ham on you,” Apple Watts admitted.
Apple Watts’ injuries ended her career as a dancer, but she’s determined to channel her experience into motivational speaking.
“Don’t drink and drive. Lots of people died off of this stuff,” she cautioned. “I thought I was bulletproof.”
“I just want to save lives. I don’t want anybody going through what I went through.”
