Ari Lennox Speaks on Amsterdam Arrest: ‘My Only Regret Is My Reaction to the Racism and Discrimination I Experienced’

Singer Ari Lennox made headlines last week after being racially profiled after touching down at an airport in Amsterdam.

Days after her unnerving encounter, Lennox expressed her regrets over the experience:

“My only regret is my reaction to the racism and discrimination I experienced,” tweeted Lennox over the weekend. “I would like to explain what happened to me but KLM has made it clear that they never cared to hear it from jump. It’s painful being silenced like this. It’s painful what I went through. I’m not ok.”

According to CBS News, the Dutch military police at Amsterdam Schiphol airport accuse Lennox of being under the influence of alcohol. Robert van Kapel, a spokesman for the border police at Schiphol Airport, released the following statement to Entertainment Tonight:

“Dutch military police, who are responsible for security at Schiphol Airport, held Ari Lennox because of her aggressive behavior towards an airline official, and for being drunk in public,” van Kapel said. “She threatened staff of an airline and security at the airport, and because of those threats, she is now interrogated.”

Lennox’s actions were reportedly a reaction to racist security staff.

“F**k Amsterdam security. They hate black people,” she tweeted 4:16 a.m. ET. In a separate tweet, Lennox wrote: “They’re arresting me” and “I’m being arrested in Amsterdam for reacting to a woman racially profiling me.”

She has since deactivated her Twitter account.

“I just want to go home. I’ll never leave my house again,” she continued.

Of course, the airline tried to downplay the incident, pointing the blame at the Dreamville star.

A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines spokesperson told the press, “When the employee confronted [Lennox], she drew the wrong conclusions,” adding that Lennox’s management apologized for the misunderstanding.
