Black-ish star Marsai Martin is developing a new unscripted series for television focused on the stories of trailblazing Black women with ITV America’s Sirens Media.
“Black women have always contributed to American culture,” Martin told The Hollywood Reporter. “They’ve just never gotten the recognition. This show is a fun way of letting people know how dope we are.”
The project is being shopped under the working titles, Baddies.
“Our team continues to be blown away by Marsai on multiple levels,” said Sirens president Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh. “She’s a creative force of nature and an important voice in our culture, and aside from her obvious talents on camera, is a very deft and thoughtful executive behind the scenes. We’re proud to partner with her and Genius on this series that will shed light on vital stories in imaginative and unexpected fashion.”
At just 15 years of age, Martin is taking Hollywood by storm.
The news comes weeks after Martin was tapped to host her own talk show titled the ‘Tiny Talk Show’ on Quibi, produced by Art & Industry and is billed as the world’s smallest functional talk show.
Her black-ish co-star Yara Shahidi also recently inked a deal with ABC Studios to produce various projects for cable, broadcast and streaming services.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with my home family, ABC Studios, in this exciting next chapter, alongside my family,” said Shahidi. “It’s exciting to add our production company to the roster of my peers and mentors who are also actively committed to sharing meaningful stories.”
