Jury selection for A$AP Rocky’s high-profile trial is heating up, and Rihanna’s immense star power is already taking center stage. Prosecutors are taking no chances, scrutinizing potential jurors to ensure they can remain impartial despite the superstar couple’s influence.

Jury selection is underway in A$ AP’s trial after he opted to reject a plea bargain and chose to contest the gun charges he is facing. He rejected an offer that would have resulted in 180 days of incarceration and three years of probation. Now, if convicted of the firearm offense, he could face a maximum of 24 years in prison.

Meanwhile, potential jurors are being asked numerous questions regarding both A$AP and his partner.

According to TMZ, the process of selecting a jury for the trial is still in progress. One of the questions the prosecution posed to prospective jurors was whether they knew about Rocky or Rihanna and their music.

The prosecution inquired whether potential jurors had ever bought any items from Rihanna’s Fenty brand, such as cosmetics or apparel. They also questioned the group about whether they could deliver an impartial verdict if Rihanna were in the courtroom during the trial.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have been in a relationship since around 2020 and are parents to sons RZA, who is 2, and Riot, who is 1. Rihanna, at 36, is a billionaire and a nine-time Grammy-winning music icon who established Fenty Beauty. The singer of “Love On the Brain” boasts 150 million followers on Instagram, while A$AP Rocky has 18.2 million. According to experts consulted by Newsweek, the pop star’s attendance in court would attract significant media coverage and could influence jurors.

A$AP Rocky, legally named Rakim Mayers, has entered a not-guilty plea to the allegations of having fired at his former friend A$AP Relli four years prior. Prosecutors claim he brandished a firearm during a confrontation with his ex-friend A$AP Relli, who has accused him of assault. A$AP Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, asserts that the firearm was just a prop.

The trial is set to start shortly, with prosecutors eager to ensure jurors aren’t influenced by the celebrity status—or tempted to ask for autographs from the famous couple.

Rihanna may attend court to support him, although concrete plans for her to do so have yet to be made public.
