Angel Reese is headed to a new team after the Chicago Sky traded the star forward to the Atlanta Dream in a significant deal centered on future draft assets.
The trade, announced Monday, sends Reese to Atlanta in exchange for two first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028. The Dream will also receive the right to a 2028 second-round pick swap as part of the agreement.
The move marks a major shift for both franchises, particularly for Chicago, which is opting to invest in long-term roster flexibility by acquiring valuable future selections.

Reese, one of the league’s most impactful young players, leaves Chicago after just two seasons but with an already impressive résumé. Drafted No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, she quickly established herself as a dominant presence in the paint.
In 64 career games with the Sky, Reese averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, earning All-Star honors twice during her tenure. Her rebounding ability and physical style of play made her one of the most recognizable rising stars in the league.
Chicago Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca acknowledged Reese’s contributions in a statement following the trade.
“Angel has achieved many record-breaking milestones in her first two years in the WNBA and has been a competitive force for the Sky,” Pagliocca said. “We are thankful for her many important contributions… and we know she will continue to have a big impact on the court and beyond.”
For Atlanta, the acquisition signals a win-now approach, adding an elite rebounder and proven scorer to bolster their frontcourt. Reese’s presence is expected to immediately elevate the Dream’s competitiveness as they look to contend in the WNBA.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s decision reflects a strategic pivot toward rebuilding and future planning, leveraging Reese’s high value to secure multiple first-round assets.
The trade represents one of the most notable moves of the WNBA season so far, reshaping the outlook for both teams as they prepare for the years ahead.
