So, remember that viral clip of Doechii seemingly barking orders about umbrellas at her team before her Met Gala debut? Well, the rapper has finally responded, and her clapback is dripping with a healthy dose of sarcasm. It seems the “Anxiety” artist isn’t sweating the accusations that she had a backstage “diva moment.”

Clad in a checkerboard Pharrell Williams-designed Louis Vuitton short suit, Doechii made her much-anticipated debut at fashion’s biggest night. But before she even hit the carpet, social media was ablaze with accusations that she mistreated staff while getting ready. A behind-the-scenes clip caught her demanding more umbrellas to block paparazzi lenses.

“I need more fing umbrellas,” she was heard saying. “I don’t want these people fing seeing me, move the umbrella!” And just like that, Twitter and TikTok exploded. Some called her “rude,” while others rushed to her defense, noting the high-stress, high-stakes environment of a first-time Met Gala appearance.

Of course, the internet had a field day. Some viewers labeled her behavior as having “attitude,” with one commenter writing, “I’m sorry, but the way she’s talking to people ain’t it.” But, as always, some jumped to Doechii’s defense, suggesting that the pressure of her first Met Gala appearance and the desire to keep her look a surprise could have led to the heightened emotions. One fan pointed out, “They put so much time, effort, and money into these looks. The point is to reveal at the carpet. This is a completely valid response.”

But Doechii isn’t one to let the internet spin the narrative unchecked.

She took to TikTok on May 7 to clear the air, and she did it with style. “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” she wrote with a wink. In the caption, she added, “All jokes aside, this was such an overstimulating night, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of, and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).”

While the debate about her backstage demeanor might continue, Doechii’s response definitely adds another layer to the story. It sounds like the Met Gala whirlwind was intense but ultimately a dream come true for the rising star, even if it required a few extra umbrellas!
