The FBI is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Heaven McGee, a 21-year-old woman from Oakland who vanished more than five months ago and is now believed to be a victim of human trafficking.
Heaven disappeared on Jan. 17 and was last seen three days later in Stockton, California, according to her mother, Tamesha McGee, who has been tirelessly searching for her daughter ever since.
“Here’s a picture of my daughter—my only child. She disappeared out of my life in January,” said Tamesha in an emotional interview with ABC 7 News.
The FBI and Oakland Police Department held a press conference Wednesday to announce new developments in the case and urge the public to come forward with any tips, no matter how small.
“Based on the evidence gathered in this case, we believe Heaven was being trafficked and that’s why she was in the Stockton area,” an FBI agent explained. “Cell phone data and other investigative leads have guided multiple searches.”
The FBI explained that human trafficking often isolates victims from their loved ones and makes it harder for them to escape or reach out for help. Investigators believe someone in the Stockton area may have seen or heard something that could help lead to a breakthrough in the case.
“We know someone saw something,” the FBI said. “Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece we need to bring Heaven home.”
Her mother, who describes Heaven as a loving and genuine person, believes someone in the community knows more than they are saying.
“I know there’s someone out there who heard something that can help me find my daughter,” Tamesha said. “Heaven would never just walk away from her family.”
Anonymous Tips Encouraged
The FBI has set up anonymous tip lines by phone and online for anyone with information. Community members are being urged to report anything suspicious or relevant, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
“We don’t know everything,” law enforcement said. “You might hold the one piece of the puzzle we need.”
