A Florida woman has been arrested and charged with felony battery after she was accused of biting a woman’s ear off during a fight over alcohol and vape pens.

Earlier this month, officers responded to a call at a home in Callaway, a suburb of Panama City, just after midnight when it was found that a house party was taking place by unsupervised minors.

Police, who arrived at 6526 Olokee Street, arrived to find the place in disarray. According to an NBC News report, a fight had broken out between men at the party. Macy Regan attempted to leave and walk home – not far away from the party –  when Dixie Stiles, 18, confronted Regan and accused her of stealing alcohol and vape pens.

Regan then pulled out a 9 millimeter gun from her waistband, according to reports. Stiles managed to shove it out of the way before they began attacking each other. It was then that Regan bit Stiles’ ear, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Both women were injured in the fight, with both reported to have multiple bruises and lacerations. According to police, Stiles’ ear was unable to be reattached.

Both women were arrested: Stiles is charged with battery while Regan is charged with felony battery causing bodily harm.

This story is developing and an investigation is ongoing.

According to a cross-sectional analysis of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health at the National Library of Medicine, “adolescent drinkers who reported problem drinking and peer drinking were more likely to engage in physical fighting, being injured, and injuring others in fights than drinkers who did not report these drinking behaviors even after controlling for drinking frequency and binge drinking. The findings highlight the need for violence prevention programs that focus on the reduction of alcohol use among adolescents.”
