Former ABC News President Kim Godwin’s sudden departure from the network has sparked allegations of favoritism toward her alma mater, Florida A&M University (FAMU).

Sources close to ABC News have revealed that Godwin, who announced her resignation over the weekend, allegedly showed a strong bias toward FAMU, disregarding budget constraints to assign two separate camera crews to cover the university’s commencement ceremony earlier this month.

One crew was tasked with documenting the graduation ceremony, while the other focused on a significant donation made to the school.

Additionally, concerns have been raised about preferential treatment for FAMU students and graduates in internship opportunities.

The allegations come amidst challenges faced by ABC News, including financial constraints and the need to cover major national stories.

While Godwin officially cited retirement from broadcast journalism in her announcement, some insiders have characterized her departure as a “compulsory resignation.”

Kim Godwin, a seasoned media executive with a distinguished career spanning over three decades, began her journey in journalism as a news assistant at a local television station before climbing the ranks to become a respected figure in the industry.

With a background in producing and news management, Godwin has held various leadership roles at major networks, including NBC News and CBS News.

Throughout her career, she has garnered praise for her strategic vision, editorial expertise, and commitment to journalistic integrity.

In 2021, Godwin made history as the first Black woman to lead a major broadcast news division when she was appointed president of ABC News.

Under her leadership, ABC News continued to deliver award-winning journalism while navigating the evolving media landscape.

Despite facing challenges, Godwin’s tenure at ABC News was marked by innovation, inclusivity, and a dedication to informing and inspiring audiences worldwide.
