Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles has once again etched her name into the annals of sports history. The fearless athlete has officially surpassed legendary gymnast Shannon Miller to become the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast ever.
Thanks to her gold medal-winning team performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the most decorated gymnast in history has just received more awards.
Simone Biles now owns the record for the most medals won by any gymnast in Olympic history.
The 27-year-old won her eighth Olympic medal on Tuesday night after she and her teammates — Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera — dominated for gold in the team final at the 2024 Paris Games.
With the victory, she overtook former American gymnast Shannon Miller, who won seven medals between the 1996 Atlanta Games and the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Biles’ extraordinary success results from her unmatched talent, unwavering commitment, and mental toughness. With each Olympic appearance, she has elevated the bar for the sport, enthralling spectators everywhere with her gravity-defying routines and contagious charisma.
Throughout her career, Biles has been intent on pushing the sport in new directions by doing things that have never been done before.
She successfully completed two vaults, two-floor exercises, and one balance beam element in an international competition, so her name is now attached to five elements in the Code of Points.
If Biles attempts the original skill—this one on uneven bars—that she submitted to the International Gymnastics Federation prior to the Olympics, there’s a chance she could add a sixth.
Biles did not attempt it during qualifying on Sunday or the team final on Tuesday. However, she could still attempt it during the all-around final on Thursday.
Even though she is currently the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, Biles can still win four more medals when she competes in individual events this week.
