Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe is keeping it real when it comes to parenting—and party planning.

The Precious star recently sat down with Sherri Shepherd on Sherri to discuss her new Lifetime movie Give Me Back My Daughter and why she’s skipping an over-the-top first birthday party for her twins.

Sidibe, who welcomed her twin babies last year with husband Brandon Frankel, made it clear that she’s opting for meaningful experiences over extravagant celebrations.

When Shepherd asked why she wasn’t throwing a big birthday bash, Sidibe hilariously pointed out that society’s standards—especially those set by celebrity culture—are just too much.

“Kardashian money!” Sidibe quipped, referencing the extravagant birthday parties often thrown by the famous family. “For those of us with regular money… I’m not spending $100,000 on some circus-themed thing that the babies can only experience through pictures. That’s crazy.”

While the Empire alum acknowledges the importance of celebrating milestones, she believes experiences hold more value for her little ones at this stage.

“We’re 100% gonna celebrate them,” she said, adding that she and her husband are opting for a trip to the zoo or the aquarium instead. “But they’re not gonna remember a party.”

Sidibe also playfully admitted that she was “tricked” into having a baby shower and isn’t a big fan of hosting large gatherings in general.

“I don’t like that many people in my house,” she joked, much to the audience’s amusement.

For now, Sidibe says she’ll hold off on parties until her twins are old enough to actually enjoy them.

“By the time they’re three, that’s probably their first party,” she said. “But they ain’t got no friends now.”

As always, Sidibe’s humor and authenticity resonated with fans, proving once again why she remains one of Hollywood’s most relatable stars.

Meanwhile, her latest project Give Me Back My Daughter is set to bring a different kind of drama when it premieres on Lifetime.
