Former Vice President Kamala Harris delivered sharp criticism of Donald Trump, accusing him of showing hostility toward Black history and using divisive rhetoric in public statements.
Speaking in an interview, Harris said recent comments from Trump — including social media posts she described as “disparaging and demeaning” toward former national leaders — reflect a broader pattern in his approach to issues affecting Black Americans.
“We have a president who does not understand the importance of Black history and the importance of celebrating Black history and teaching Black history,” Harris said.
Strong criticism of rhetoric
Harris argued that Trump has consistently demonstrated what she called an unapologetic and hostile stance toward matters related to race and history.
She said his language and tone in public communications have been particularly troubling.
“Frankly, he has a history of being hostile to these issues and is quite unapologetic in his approach and attitude,” she said. “It’s a shame.”
Call for community leadership
Harris also emphasized the importance of community responsibility in preserving and teaching Black history, especially when she believes national leadership falls short.
“We have to look to each other and to those who will teach and remind us of America’s history through Black history,” she said.
The comments come amid broader political debates over education, historical narratives, and the role of federal leadership in addressing racial issues in the United States.
