Heartbreaking! Search for Missing South Carolina Woman Leads to Discovery of Her Body in Woods

by Gee NY

The search for a missing South Carolina woman has ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in a wooded area in Richland County.

Authorities are now treating the case as a homicide.

Angela Fuller, 56, of Columbia, was reported missing on Sept. 1 after loved ones had not heard from her since August 29. On Thursday, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford confirmed that human remains found in the 100 block of Shakespeare Lane in Dentsville were positively identified as Fuller.

“This is not the outcome we would want for any family who has a missing loved one in our community,” Rutherford said in a news release. “The confirmation of Ms. Fuller’s identity brings both clarity and heartbreak for the family.”

Police Investigation Shifts Toward Homicide

Columbia police had already intensified their search earlier this week, canvassing more than 75 locations, including vacant buildings and lots across the city.

Police Chief Skip Holbrook said the search included multiple targeted areas after Fuller’s last known sighting in the 3000 block of North Beltline Boulevard.

By Tuesday afternoon, however, investigators indicated the case had taken a darker turn.

“Based on the amount of time that has passed since Ms. Fuller was last seen and evidence seized by investigators, we are investigating this incident in a manner similar to a homicide investigation,” police announced on social media.

Authorities confirmed that Anthony Reese has been identified as a person of interest in the case. Reese remains in custody on unrelated charges while the investigation continues.

Community Impact

Fuller’s disappearance and death have shaken the Columbia community, with police urging residents to remain vigilant and report any relevant information.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office explained that the case remains active and ongoing, with further updates expected as evidence is processed.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Columbia Police Department or Midlands Crime Stoppers.
