Jasmin Brown is facing online backlash after her boyfriend, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton, said on a podcast that a woman’s value decreases the more children she has.
The comments, made during a guest appearance on “It’s Giving – Podcast” with Sarah Fontenot, quickly spread across social media and shifted attention to Jasmibe, who shares two children with Cam Newton.
During the interview, Cam was asked directly whether he believes a woman’s value gets lowered when she has multiple children by multiple men. He responded that, in his view, “women’s value get lower the more children that they have.” Cam, who has nine children with three different women, said he has had similar conversations with one of the mothers of his children.
He described telling her that the next man she dates would need to be willing to accept and love all five of her children. Cam said that when he entered her life, he was willing to accept her and everything that came with her. He added that if a man is not willing to love those children, then he is not the right partner for her. At the same time, Cam said that does not mean she cannot find someone else.
Cam Newton did not name which of his former partners he was referring to, but many listeners believe he was referencing his ex-fiancée, Kia Proctor. Kia Proctor had one daughter from a previous relationship before she and Newton welcomed four children together.
As clips from the podcast circulated online, critics pointed out that Cam himself has nine children with three women. The backlash soon extended to Jasmin Brown, a comedian and actress who welcomed her second child with Newton last year. Social media users resurfaced past comments Jasmin made before becoming a mother, when she reportedly spoke against women becoming baby mamas. Those older remarks have been widely shared in light of Cam’s latest statements.
Online reactions have included questions about whether Jasmin’s “value,” by Cam’s own standard, has changed after having two children with him. While Jasmin Brown has not publicly responded to the renewed scrutiny, her name has trended alongside Cam Newton’s as the debate over his comments continues.
