JT just learned the hard way that clapping back at fans can backfire spectacularly, especially when your insults sound like they’re straight out of 1824.
What started as a celebration of a milestone quickly spiraled into accusations of disrespect, tone-deafness, and colorism. And let’s just say… the internet isn’t letting her off the hook easily.
JT was riding high after her Run Out music video crossed the 1 million views mark on YouTube. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the good news, captioning a repost of the achievement with a proud “Finally. WTF! .” But not everyone was feeling the hype. One user commented, “This is so embarrassing..” and that’s where things took a sharp left.
Never one to stay quiet, JT clapped back hard:
“Help me find the embarrassing part? You know what’s really embarrassing? That you can’t & never will accomplish things you think embarrassing. You know not to even try!”
But then, she followed it up with a tweet that sent shockwaves:
“Stan wars got y’all little black girls losing the plot in yall rooms when yall should be in the field trying to make something shake…”
Hold up. In the field?? Little black girls?? The phrase immediately struck a nerve. Fans weren’t having it. Many felt her words had racial undertones, intentional or not, and considering her own fanbase is largely made up of young Black women, the backlash came fast and furious.
One user tweeted: “‘Little black girls’?? Does she think she’s a yt woman?”
Another added: “The little black girls are the ones supporting her. These artists always show you how they really feel about you.”
And perhaps the most cutting critique: “The ‘little black girls’ and ‘y’all should be out in the field’ part don’t sit right. Out of all the things she could say… IDC what she was trying to say. Double entendre or Freudian slip?”
JT did try to clean it up. Well, kind of. She tweeted, “Y’all know wtf I meant. ” but the damage had already been done. Screenshots circulated. Think pieces began brewing. It was too late.
This incident comes on the heels of another online controversy. Just days ago, JT was accused of bleaching her skin after she posted a series of ultra-glam photos showing her with visibly lighter skin. And, in typical JT fashion, she didn’t shy away from the drama.
“Do y’all ever talk about yourself on this app? Do y’all care about your own self, or do y’all only care about who is doing better than y’all?” JT clapped back.
