CBS News has agreed to provide the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with a full, unedited transcript of former Vice President Kamala Harris’s October “60 Minutes” interview, amid former President Donald Trump’s ongoing lawsuit against the network.
The FCC requested the transcript and camera feeds from the interview, which aired ahead of Harris’s loss to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
CBS confirmed its legal obligation to comply, stating Friday, “We are working to comply with that inquiry as we are legally compelled to do.”
Trump’s Allegations and FCC Investigation
The request follows a complaint by a conservative law firm, alleging that CBS engaged in “significant and intentional news distortion” in its coverage of Harris.
The Biden administration previously dismissed the case, but it was reopened under FCC Chair Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee.
Trump also filed a $10 billion lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, accusing CBS of election and voter interference through alleged selective editing of Harris’s responses.
The lawsuit claims the network’s coverage influenced the election outcome, though CBS has dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
The case against CBS is part of a broader FCC investigation into major news networks, including ABC News, NBC News, Fox Corporation, NPR, and PBS.
Former FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel had previously dropped similar cases, citing First Amendment protections.
