Kamala Harris To Engage With Black Women Voters At Alpha Kappa Alpha And Zeta Phi Beta Conventions

by Gee NY

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to address the annual meetings of two prominent Black sororities this month to engage with Black women voters.

Harris will speak at Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Grand Boulè in Indianapolis and at her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 71st annual Boulè in Dallas.

Additionally, Harris will appear at the 30th annual ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans.

Following the recent Biden-Trump debate, the Biden-Harris campaign is leveraging these events to connect with young Black women and mobilize voters. Both sororities announced her appearances on Instagram.

“This monumental conversation serves as an opportunity to address ongoing issues within our communities while paving the way to continue advocating for ‘The Extraordinary Power of S.H.E.’—our worldwide initiative for Social, Health, and Economic justice for women at home and abroad,” Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. shared on Instagram.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. echoed this sentiment:

“This keynote address by Harris allows us to continue the efforts of our international program initiative, ‘Advocate for Social Justice.’ Alpha Kappa Alpha stands in the gap to empower and equip communities with knowledge, support, and tools through advocacy and social justice.”

Dr. Stacie NC Grant, International President and CEO of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., expressed her excitement in a statement to The 19th:

“We are excited to welcome Vice President Kamala Harris to our 2024 Grand Boulè to discuss what this administration has done to improve the lives of all Americans as well as the investments being made in the historically underserved communities our members serve.”

Harris will participate in a moderated conversation during the Zeta Phi Beta Grand Boulè and serve as the keynote speaker at Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Boulè.

A Howard University alumna, Harris joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority during her time there. Her sorority sisters have consistently supported her political career, including their presence at the 2020 vice presidential debate.

Since the start of the year, Harris has made over 60 trips to 20 states, engaging with Black women voters, youth leaders, and various communities. Her primary focus includes issues like abortion, gun violence, and the economy.

She has already held discussions with youth leaders and gun safety advocates in cities such as Atlanta, Parkland, Las Vegas, and Charlotte.

Black women are a crucial demographic for the Democratic Party, making their participation vital for the Biden-Harris administration’s success.

Harris is scheduled to attend Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s 71st annual Boulè in Dallas on July 10, followed by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Grand Boulè in Indianapolis on July 24.
