Kelis Debuts First Children’s Book: ‘Seven Wonders of Africa’ Celebrating Representation and Adventure

Singer and entrepreneur Kelis has added another accomplishment to her impressive resume: children’s book author.

Inspired by her extensive travels across Africa, Kelis announced the release of her debut book, Seven Wonders of Africa.

The story follows a young adventurer, Abel Sabbath Brown, as she explores the continent’s beauty, history, and culture.

Taking to Instagram, Kelis revealed her excitement about the project.

“I’m so happy to finally show you something I’ve been working on. I WROTE MY FIRST CHILDREN’S BOOK!!!” she shared.

Kelis also introduced her new company, Make It Brown, dedicated to creating stories and characters that offer representation and inspire young readers to dream big and explore the world.

“This story has been inspired by my journey throughout Africa this year,” Kelis explained.

Her travels have taken her to countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar, and Rwanda, where she immersed herself in local communities and sustainable farming practices.

The 45-year-old artist, widely known for her hit song Milkshake, has spent the past year documenting her African adventures with her family, showcasing the continent’s vibrant landscapes, cultures, and people:

“From its people to the land, it has been nothing short of amazing. And I wanted to share it with all of you and your families. I truly love us, so from my heart to you!”

Seven Wonders of Africa is available now on Kelis’ website in hardcover, digital, and audio formats.

With themes of love, learning, and representation, Kelis hopes the book will inspire families and children to embrace the rich diversity of Africa and beyond.
