Gospel singer Kim Burrell has once again found herself in hot water after a video of her demanding to sing a song solo during a church performance went viral.
The Grammy-nominated gospel singer asked the singing congregation to stop singing so she could sing her song alone. This isn’t the first time Burrell has gone viral for a similar incident, leading some to dub her the “Rudest Woman in Gospel.”
Earlier this year, Kim Burrell had to hit someone with a, ‘I’m singing alone, now’ during one of what some people call ‘problematic sermons.’
In that clip, Burrell is leading the closing of a sermon, and she begins to sing the hymn “Thank You, Lord,” one of the most popular songs of the Black Church. When a woman in the congregation begins to sing loudly with Burrell, she announces, “It’s a solo. God’s using me. Don’t sing with me right now.”
Unfortunately, the woman just continued singing, making the Houston minister sternly rebuke her.
Kim Burrell quickly turned to her own page to clear up the confusion after intense backlash from black Twitter. According to her, some people don’t understand the difference between “Kim the singer” and “Kim the preacher.” The ‘Try Me Again’ concluded the woman’s vocal performance was too distracting.
After her apology, one would have thought that the incident would not repeat until another video of the gospel performer’s recent appearance at a church countered that thought.
In the new footage making its rounds across social media, Burrell is seen stopping the music mid-performance, saying, “No, no, no… Please let me sing my song. Give me one round by myself. I’m trying to minister to somebody. I will come back with the choir. Choose your choir, and I will be back.”
Many people have condemned Burrell’s actions, calling them disrespectful and unprofessional.
