Meghan Markle is reportedly pitching a documentary about a Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder, as a part of her and Prince Harry’s deal with the streaming giants, Netflix,
The documentary will center on Patrisse Cullors, one of the three founders of the BLM movement.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex inked a deal with Netflix, rumored to be worth between $100 million to $150 million over five years.
According to UK publication, The Mirror, a source said that Markle pitched the documentary to Netflix because she’s been “blown away by the incredible work Patrisse has done” in creating the BLM movement.
Markle has been quite vocal about the movement, much to the dismay of her critics who are outraged that a royal would dare to speak on political matters.
Last month, she interviewed non-profit The 19th*’s co-founder and CEO, Emily Ramshaw, where she discussed her experience of moving back to California amid protests against police brutality.
“To come back and to just see the state of affairs, I think at the onset of it, if I’m being honest, it was just devastating,” Markle shared.
“It was so sad to see where our country was in that moment. And if there’s any silver lining in that, I would say that in the weeks that were happening after the murder of George Floyd, in the peaceful protests that you were seeing, in the voices that were coming out, in the way that people were actually owning their role and acknowledging their role they were playing by either actively or passively participating in the discrimination of other people, specifically of the Black community, it shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is turning.”
