A Florida mother was arrested for alleged child neglect after her 8-year-old son was accidentally left alone at a McDonald’s while she completed DoorDash deliveries, according to police body cam footage and witness reports.
The incident, which has gone viral online, occurred when the boy got out of the car to use the restroom. Unaware that he had not returned, the mother drove to another location with multiple children in the vehicle, only realizing the child was missing after one of the older children asked about him.
She immediately returned to the restaurant, but officers were already on the scene.
Footage and transcripts show the child running through the parking lot, visibly distressed, while bystanders attempted to ensure his safety.

Witnesses confirmed that it appeared to be an honest mistake, yet officers determined that probable cause for child neglect existed under Florida law, which defines neglect as failing to provide necessary supervision to maintain a child’s physical or mental health.
The mother, identified as Demi Mila Roma, explained to officers that she had no idea her son had entered the restaurant alone and stated that she had multiple children in the car at the time.
Her eldest daughter corroborated her account, explaining that the younger child had gone inside without the mother realizing it.
Despite the apparent accident, police placed Roma under arrest and transported her to the Orange County Booking and Release Center.
Custody of the children, including the 8-year-old, was transferred to their father, who was present at the scene.
The case has drawn attention online for highlighting the complexities of parental responsibility and law enforcement discretion in child welfare cases.
Many viewers of the video, posted by A Matter of Crime, have expressed concern that the mother’s arrest seemed excessive given the circumstances.
This case highlights the delicate balance law enforcement must maintain between ensuring child safety and recognizing genuine parental mistakes, particularly in high-stress, real-world scenarios involving multiple young children.
