Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is embracing her natural curls and sharing her personal hair journey in Olaplex’s latest campaign, “Designed to Defy.” The campaign celebrates the power of healthy hair and self-expression, featuring McLaughlin-Levrone alongside actress Nicola Coughlan and entrepreneur Jenna Lyons.
In the campaign, McLaughlin-Levrone opens up about her past struggles with her hair, revealing that she often relied on straightening it and lacked confidence in her natural texture. “My hair has, at times, been something I just wasn’t confident in,” she shared. However, through her partnership with Olaplex, she has learned to appreciate and care for her curls, stating, “Being able to show the beauty in the curls I used to have a tug-of-war with” is a significant part of her journey.
McLaughlin-Levrone’s hair care routine now includes Olaplex’s No. 3 Hair Perfector, Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner, and Leave-In Conditioner. She emphasizes the importance of moisture in maintaining her hair’s health and form throughout the day. “The biggest thing I’ve learned is making sure my hair has the moisture it needs to keep its form throughout the day,” she said.
The “Designed to Defy” campaign is Olaplex’s first multi-channel brand initiative, aiming to showcase how healthy hair can empower individuals to express themselves confidently. McLaughlin-Levrone’s involvement highlights her commitment to self-care and embracing her natural beauty. “Feeling confident in my hair when I walk out the door every morning just gives me a sense of joy,” she expressed.
Beyond the campaign, McLaughlin-Levrone continues to inspire both on and off the track, using her platform to promote self-love and authenticity. Her collaboration with Olaplex serves as a testament to the transformative power of embracing one’s natural self and the role of effective hair care in that journey.
