Rihanna has updated her profile picture for the second time in 10 years, swapping it for a Smurfette-inspired version to celebrate her upcoming role in Paramount Pictures’ new Smurfs movie.
The “Love on the Brain” singer is set to voice Smurfette in the animated film, and she’s already giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
Fans got their first look on Wednesday when Rihanna shared a short teaser for the film, drumming up major hype ahead of the official trailer release.
The clip features a whimsical scene from Smurf Village, complete with mushroom houses and a tiny blue TV. As the camera zooms in, the TV screen flickers to life, revealing Rihanna’s Smurfette blowing a kiss to the viewer. The text “Trailer tomorrow” flashes on the screen, sending fans into a frenzy.
Alongside the teaser, Rihanna updated her profile picture to a Smurfette-inspired doodle version of herself, complete with blue skin and yellow.
For years, RiRi represented herself with a doodle of herself nod to the YouTube series The Nekci Menij Show, which became known to fans as “Rhenna.”
The change marks the second time she’s updated her profile picture in a decade.
Also, Rihanna isn’t just lending her voice to Smurfette—she’s also deeply involved in the film’s production. According to Variety, the multi-talented artist is one of the movie’s producers and has written multiple original songs for the soundtrack.
Rihanna’s last musical output was the Grammy and Oscar-nominated single Lift Me Up, taken from the soundtrack to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, back in 2022.
As well as Rihanna, Smurfs will feature voice performances from the likes of Hannah Waddingham, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, Natasha Lyonne, James Corden, Dan Levy, Amy Sedaris, and Nick Offerman.
This fresh musical interpretation of “Smurfs” is inspired by the film series from Sony Pictures that adapted the beloved franchise. The live-action and CGI hybrid movies featured performances by Neil Patrick Harris and Katy Perry. The small blue figures come from the comic books created by Belgian artist Peyo.
After Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is inexplicably captured by the wicked wizards Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette (Rihanna) takes charge of the Smurfs as they embark on a quest in the real world to rescue him. With assistance from new allies, the Smurfs need to uncover what shapes their fate in order to save the universe.
While details about the new tracks are still under wraps, the anticipation is already building. Rihanna’s involvement in the Smurfs movie promises to bring her signature flair and creativity to the beloved franchise, making it a must-watch for fans of both the singer and the iconic blue characters.
