A week after announcing her return to professional sprinting, Olympic legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce decided to have a little fun at her son Zyon’s school event. And the other moms didn’t stand a chance!
In a now-viral clip that’s giving track-meet-meets-sitcom energy, the legendary Jamaican sprinter did not come to play during the parent race at her son Zyon’s school field day. She smoked the competition without even breaking a sweat.
At 38, just days after announcing her return to professional racing, Fraser-Pryce casually pulled up to the start line looking like it was business as usual and then completely annihilated every mom in sight.
“They haven’t banned me yet, so I’m at the line,” she joked in her Instagram caption alongside the hilarious video. And yes, she meant that. No mercy. No chill. Just raw speed and playground domination.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist took off like she was on the Olympic track in Tokyo, not a dusty school field with moms in sneakers and leggings. One second, they were neck and neck. The next, she was halfway down the track, and the rest were still finding their stride.
In a follow-up interview, a reporter asked what everyone’s been thinking: Did she really just do that to those poor unsuspecting parents?
Reporter: “I saw some video a moment ago. We showed it to America. I thought I was dreaming. You actually went out and ran against other parents at Zyon’s school meet. And you did that to them?”
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce: “Yes, why not I’m a parent!”
Reporter:” ‘Why not? You are the mommy rocket. Are you kidding me?”
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce: “It said parent race, so I showed up for the parent race.”
Reporter: “I’m sure they were glad to see you leave after you beat them like that.”
Shelly-Ann’s reason for her dominating performance was all about showing up for her son! “Well, honestly, I wasn’t planning on running. But then my son and my husband didn’t show up like we planned. So I had to show up.”
Fans online are obsessed with the clip, calling it the “most Jamaican thing ever” and joking that Fraser-Pryce probably did a full warm-up routine while the other parents stretched in fear. “She ran like her reputation was on the line,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Imagine lining up next to Shelly-Ann at a school race… I would’ve faked an injury.”
Talk about a supportive mom!
