SZA is stepping up for her community, providing free food at a time when many families need help the most. With SNAP benefits disrupted by the ongoing government shutdown, thousands of households in Los Angeles are struggling to keep food on the table. SZA decided she wasn’t sitting this one out.

The Grammy-winning singer announced on social media that she’s partnering with her favorite spot, Jon & Vinny’s, to give away free meals all week. “Partnering with my fave restaurant to give away 100 meals a day for those affected by SNAP!!” she wrote. She encouraged followers to spread the word and support the effort, adding a simple message: “Love y’all.”

Her Not Charity foundation is backing the initiative, which will provide 1,400 free meals over seven days, making up “100 dinners for two per day.” It’s a gesture rooted in community. “No fun if the homies can’t have none,” she added, reminding fans why she stays connected to the people who raised her.

The meals will be available for pickup at Jon & Vinny’s Slauson location from November 11 through November 17, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Families can receive up to four meals by signing up via email. The format keeps the process organized while making sure every meal reaches someone who needs it.

SZA’s action arrives as other celebrities speak out and offer support during the SNAP crisis. Tyler Perry recently donated nearly $1.4 million to help families affected by the funding pause. He called the situation “heartbreaking” and stressed that compassion shouldn’t be political. For many families, the halted benefits mean empty shelves, skipped meals, and babies without formula.

Meanwhile, the crisis continues to unfold nationwide. The Trump administration returned to the Supreme Court this week, asking to keep SNAP payments frozen during the shutdown. Lower courts ruled that the federal government must continue full payments, but the administration is pushing back. The decision could affect 42 million Americans who rely on the program.

With the shutdown stretching into record territory, families across the country are turning to food banks and local organizations for help.
