Taraji P. Henson has revealed she’s considering moving abroad, citing exhaustion with the political climate in the United States. Alongside this revelation, Henson is venturing into an entirely new industry: wine-making.
While the Empire actress said she has been thinking about leaving the country ‘for a long time,’ she shared that she ultimately hasn’t made a move yet because of her loved ones.
“I’ve been thinking about that for a long time,” Taraji disclosed to PEOPLE. “I was thinking about it the first time I went to Italy. I was like, ‘Oh, I could live here.”
In 2022, the 54-year-old actress opened up about her dream of becoming an expat. She revealed that this feeling was born out of her desire to escape America’s turbulent political and social climate, which had become increasingly challenging to navigate. “That’s something that comes with 50,” she said in the old interview. “You get tired of fighting. I’m tired.”
Although Henson yearns for a new beginning overseas, she recognizes the emotional connections that anchor her in place, especially her only child, Marcell Johnson, who is 30 years old.
“The thing is, is that I still have family here, so I’m kind of torn,” she explains. “I’m torn. But I do want a space somewhere outside of the country. I absolutely do. That’s always been a dream of mine. But who knows, you’ve got to see. Because you want to feel safe, you’re going to.”
In addition to contemplating life abroad, Henson is diving headfirst into the world of wine.
The Academy Award-nominated actress has teamed up with the wine brand Seven Daughters, joining as a strategic advisor and creative partner. With the backing of the Terlato Wine Group, she has been actively involved in transforming the appearance of the well-loved Moscato, incorporating elements that reflect her personal preferences.
According to Henson, her unforgettable trip to Italy inspired her latest venture. Like many of us, she finds joy in unwinding with a lovely glass of dessert wine after a tiring day.
And for Taraji P Henson, she signed on “because the Moscato is really, really good. Sometimes Moscato gets a bad name, it’s too sweet, it’s too dry, it’s too bad. But this is perfect.”
