The trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series starring Meagan Good has dropped.
Harlem follows “a group of stylish and ambitious best girlfriends in Harlem, New York City, the mecca of Black culture in America,” per the official logline. “Together, they level up from their 20s into the next phase of their careers, relationships, and big city dreams.”
The first season runs for 10 episodes.
The show centers on four friends:
Camille, a popular young anthropology professor at Columbia with extensive knowledge of the dating norms of many cultures. However, figuring out her own love life is proving to be far more difficult. Tye, who is a successful, queer dating app creator who prefers keeping struggles with commitment issues. Quinn, a hopeless romantic and trust fund fashion designer who is trying to give back to the world while running a struggling business. And last but not least, Angie, a confident and filter-free singer and actress living “rent-free and fabulously” with Quinn.
In an interview with Coveteur, Good said she was praying for such a role.
“When I got Harlem and I read it, I instantly fell in love with it. When I found out that I got it, I actually cried because I was so excited, and it’s such a different character for me. I’m very goofy and kind of quirky and all that good stuff, so it’s the perfect character for me,” she shared.
Good welcomed the chance to do something different as she feels she’s been pigeonholed for most of her career.
“By the time I was in my late 20’s I felt really pigeonholed in that space where I felt like people were like ‘Okay, she’s an attractive girl so we should hire her for this but she probably doesn’t do anything else.’ That’s what it felt like to me,” she explained.
“Harlem,” from Girl’s Trip creator Tracy Oliver, will premiere Friday, Dec. 3, on Prime Video.
