Vivica A. Fox is giving fans the chance to relive her epic appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill film, but this time her appearance is in SZA’s new video to her latest single bearing the martial arts movie’s name.
The four-minute, 36-second video opens with references from Budd’s trailer and continues with scenes replicating the movie’s most nostalgic moments, including O-Ren’s anime compilation, the iconic fight at the House of the Blue Leaves with the Crazy 88 and the notable Nobody Gets Me track that plays at the top of the film.
“If I can’t have you no one will,” SZA sings over an uptempo beat. “I just killed my ex, not the best idea / Killed his girlfriend next, how’d I get here?”
The video was initially posted on YouTube last Tuesday but was taken down due to unknown circumstances. It was then re-uploaded the following day and has garnered 9.4 million views at the time of this publication.
“Lmao it’s going back up shortly,” SZA tweeted at the time the video was taken down. “Just everyone act surprised when it does please.”
Hollywood director Christian Breslauer directed the video, which accurately recreates the 2003 and 2004 cult classics. Fox, who appeared in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2, played Vernita Green and was a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad in the film.
SZA’s album, SOS, has topped the Billboard 200 chart since its release in December. It currently sits at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and sold 318,000 album units in the US – the fifth biggest opening week of 2022. The album has garnered 405 million on-demand streams, receiving the second-largest streaming week for an album by a female artist.
“SOS isn’t simply a statement piece: It’s practically a new bible of abstract contemporary soul,” and depicts “danger, sex and joy so daringly breezy and buoyant,” Variety wrote in a review of the album.
