Just hours after celebrating a championship victory, professional basketball star Arike Ogunbowale found herself facing legal trouble following an early-morning arrest in Miami.

According to police records from Miami-Dade County Police Department, the Dallas Wings guard was arrested around 4:20 a.m. Thursday outside the E11EVEN Miami nightclub and charged with misdemeanor battery.

Authorities allege Ogunbowale punched a man in the face with a closed fist during an altercation outside the venue, causing him to fall to the ground. Police said surveillance footage from the nightclub reportedly captured the incident and supported the alleged victim’s account.

The arrest occurred shortly after Ogunbowale helped lead her team, the Mist, to victory in the inaugural championship of the Unrivaled league. Ogunbowale scored 19 points in the final game before heading out to celebrate with teammates and supporters.

League officials acknowledged the situation in a brief statement.

“The league is aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and we are in the process of gathering additional information,” a spokesperson for Unrivaled said, adding that officials are in contact with the player and her representatives.

The Dallas Wings also confirmed they are reviewing the matter.

“The Wings are aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and are in the process of gathering more information,” the team said in a statement.

Ogunbowale, 27, is one of the most recognizable players in women’s professional basketball. She is a four-time All-Star in the Women’s National Basketball Association and has earned two WNBA All-Star Game MVP awards during her career.

The arrest comes at a moment that had otherwise been a celebratory milestone for the athlete following the championship win. It remains unclear whether the incident will lead to disciplinary action from the league or team.

Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged victim or whether further charges could be filed.
