Woman Confesses To Shifting Her Perspective About Men After Having A Son: ‘The World Expects So Much From Them’

by Gee NY

A mother’s emotional reflection on gender, accountability, and empathy is gaining attention after she shared how giving birth to a son fundamentally changed her views on men—particularly Black men.

The woman made the comments that some might consider unpopular during a recent episode of Staying Focused with Chace Greene.

In a candid video clip from the podcast, the woman said that becoming a mother to a boy opened her eyes to the pressures society places on men, making her more empathetic and understanding of their struggles.

“I feel like it’s very hard… extremely hard [to be a man],” she said. “Just because the way the world has been set up… the way women jump on men, the way society jumps on men. I wasn’t aware of it until I had a son.”

She added that her personal experiences, along with witnessing the treatment of men in her community, led to a shift in how she honors and respects men—especially Black men:

“I honor men, period, but I honor the Black man a little bit more than I did. I hold them to a higher regard now, because I see what’s out here… I have friends, I have family members. At one point, I was a certain way, so it’s just like… that’s not fair. I don’t want that for them.”

A Message of Empathy and Accountability

The mother’s reflections sparked a wave of positive responses online, with many praising her self-awareness, empathy, and personal growth.

“I love her perspective. It’s full of accountability and awareness,” one viewer commented. “When you know better and you do better—that’s enlightenment. A game changer!”

Another commenter added:

“Perspectives are the best teachers—especially when you become parents… WELL FOR SOME!”

The heartfelt conversation touched a nerve with many, especially among parents who say they’ve experienced similar awakenings.

“This is impressive,” another user wrote, “because most (Black) moms are still more Team Woman than Team Their Son’s Mom.”

The discussion also highlights a broader cultural shift where many women are reconsidering traditional gender expectations and biases, particularly after becoming parents.
