An Atlanta woman who was getting back on her feet after parting ways with her husband was fatally shot, police say.
Camesha Johnson was found inside her vehicle at a local gas station in Riverdale, GA. According to her mother, it took two hours before someone discovered her body.
“My baby sat there for two hours waiting for someone to come help her, nobody came to help her,” Virginia Hunter told FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to reports, Johnson succumbed to a single gunshot wound, which struck her in the shoulder and traveled to her heart.
“She was such a beautiful person inside and out,” her mother said. “She loved to laugh. Loved to dance. She was just such a free-spirit person and I want to know who do this.”
Police have not identified any suspects in the case, but the victim’s loved ones believe the person who killed her was someone she knew.
The victim’s mother said that the gas station where she was killed was where she would frequently go to meditate and pray.
“And she said, ‘I just praise Him,’” Johnson’s mother, Virginia Hunter, told Fox 5 Atlanta. “And I said, ‘Camesha, baby, it’s just so dangerous out here.’ She said, ‘Mama, I’m aware of my surroundings. I’m not afraid to die, but I’m aware of my surroundings.’”
“This is her happy spot,” Jeffrey Hunter, her father, told WSB-TV.
The 36-year-old victim was a mother who was a bus driver for the Clayton County School District.
“I want to find out who did this because they took my baby,” her mother said, “they took my baby from me.”
Clayton County Police is requesting that anyone with information contact them immediately. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, “For the third consecutive year, homicide investigations have increased in the city. Atlanta police investigated 170 homicides in 2022. That rate has slowed down, however, since it increased by approximately 60% from 2019 to 2020.”
