Taraji P. Henson says she fired her whole team for failing to capitalize on ‘Empire’ success. And 50 Cent seemingly wants to bring her into the “Power” or “BMF” universe.
The American rapper co-signed on Taraji’s decision to fire her entire team for failing to bag deals for her iconic role in the popular drama series, “Empire”.
In an interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the 53-year-old acting star said that firing her entire team after her time on FOX’s hit series Empire was one of the smartest business decisions she has made in Hollywood.
After starring as Cookie Lyon in all six seasons of the drama from 2015 to 2020, the actress hoped her team would make the most of her character’s popularity – but they failed.
Taraji expressed frustration over her production team’s failure to leverage the character’s success. She described “firing everybody after Cookie” as the best business move she’s made in her career.
“Where is my deal? Where’s my commercial? Cookie was at the top of the fashion game. Where is my endorsement? What did you have set up for after this? That’s why you all haven’t seen me in so long. They had nothing set up,” Taraji P. Henson revealed during the interview.
Specifically, The Color Purple actress criticized them for lacking post-“Empire” plans, such as endorsements or commercial deals.
All they wanted was another Cookie show, and I said, ‘I’ll do it, but it has to be right. The people deserve- she’s too beloved for y’all to f**k it up.’ And so, when they didn’t get it right, I was like, ‘Well, that’s it,’ and they had nothing else. ‘You’re all f**kin’ fired,'” she said.
In a post shared on Instagram, 50 Cent endorsed Taraji P. Henson’s decision, loving every bit of it.
The famed rapper shared a screenshot of a Deadline article reporting Henson’s disclosure, praising her for acting in her interest.
“They dropped the ball f*ck em @tarajiphenson,” he wrote.
50 Cent also took the opportunity to throw out a business proposal to the Golden Globe Award winner.
“I’m ready to work let’s get it!”
