Misha Green is penning a “Black Canary” movie for HBO Max, starring “Lovecraft Country” actress Jurnee Smollett.
According to Deadline, the film is a spin-off of “Birds of Prey,” which featured DC characters Harley Quinn, the Huntress and Cassandra Cain.
In the movie, Smollett will reprise her role as superhero Dinah Lance aka Black Canary. Black Canary was introduced in last year’s “Birds of Prey” movie.
Black Canary’s superpower, the ‘canary cry,’ allows the heroine to create ultrasonic vibrations which can severely damage both organic and inorganic objects — whenever she screams.
Last month, after HBO Max revealed it would not be renewing “Lovecraft Country” for a second season, Green has teased how the second season would have played out.
The teaser was a map of North America, but the states were divided up into four colors — white, gold, black and green.

A 75-page Bible was created for the second season of “Lovecraft Country.”
The series starred Smollett and Jonathan Majors and followed Atticus Freeman (Majors), who hit the road with his longtime friend and love interest Letitia (Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) through Jim Crow America in search of Freeman’s missing father (played by Michael Kenneth Williams).
The entire crew has to fight for their lives (and for the future of humanity) as they journey through the “racist horror” of white America and fight off alien-like beasts.
The show came at a time when racial tensions in the country were at an all-time high (thanks to the warped philosophies of the country’s former leader.)
We were all eager for a second season — and we still after. After it was announced that Green inked an overall deal with Apple+ — fans think “Lovecraft Country” could make a return.
