R&B star Monica Brown took time out to respond to a white journalist for criticizing her attendance at the CMT Awards Show weeks back.
A few weeks ago, a white reporter complained about the presence of Black entertainers at the awards ceremony.
âThere were so many Black people there,â Patrick Howley said. âSorry to say, but so many Black celebrities who have nothing to do with country music and itâs, like, why? No disrespect to the funky brothers,â he continued. âI love Earth Wind and Fire, Run DMC, etc. But country musicâs different⌠Itâs not Wakanda.â
Monica caught wind of his opinion and responded:
âIâve never been more motivated.. Patrick Howley, although your feelings are likely shared by some, itâs NOT by the masses! I have an all star LEGENDARY team of true country artist that are currently working with me that would beg to differ,â she wrote in her response.
âBecause of the genuine hearts of @lesliefram1 & @cmt ⌠I shared the stage w/ @jimmieallen & @littlebigtown âŚThis was the first of many times that you will see me! I see You caught that my skin is melanated, but you missed that it was tough! Iâm rooted in the word & built to last ! See you soon, or should I say âWelcome to Wakandaâ gracefully bows w/ @anthonymackie âOPEN ROADS COMING SOONâ MDAâ
Anthony Mackie was the host of the award show, which has since its very inception, remained predominantly white facing.
Howley had a few choice words for Mackie too.
âI donât know who this Black guy whoâs hosting it. Itâs supposed to be country music. No offense. I mean, yâall have hip-hop and basketball⌠Just fly with your flock, bro.â
In a classy clapback, r&b legend Monica reposted The Sourceâs story on her Instagram page and responded to critics.
