Six years ago, Las Vegas made international headlines after a gunman sprayed more than 1,000 bullets into a crowd at a local festival. Sixty people died and hundreds were injured. It would become the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
“I am determined to…work with Congress to enact further commonsense gun violence prevention legislation, including banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, which have enabled shooters to slaughter so many innocents,” President Joe Biden said in a statement shortly after the shooting. “We’ve done it before, and we can do it again. The memories of the victims demand nothing less.”
