Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka has announced her separation from coach Wim Fissette, marking the second time the duo has parted ways.

The decision follows Osaka’s early exit from the U.S. Open, where she lost in the second round to Karolina Muchova.

Osaka, 26, shared the news on her Instagram story, reflecting on their four-year partnership.

“4 years, 2 Slams, and a whole lot of memories. Thanks Wim for being a great coach and an even greater person,” wrote Osaka, who is currently ranked No. 75 in the world.

Under Fissette’s guidance, Osaka claimed two of her four Grand Slam titles—the 2020 U.S. Open and the 2021 Australian Open. Fissette, a renowned Belgian coach, also expressed gratitude for their time together, saying:

“In 15 years on tour, this was one of my best years working together with amazing people.”

The two first teamed up at the start of the 2020 season and briefly split in 2022 before reuniting after Osaka’s maternity leave last year.

Despite recent setbacks, Fissette remained optimistic, stating:

“We were very close to a breakthrough.”

Osaka’s recent struggles on the court, combined with her candid acknowledgment of the emotional toll of her losses, signal a new chapter for the former champion as she seeks fresh direction in her career.
