In a tragic incident off the Brazilian coast, influencers Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, drowned after their boat, carrying more passengers than its legal limit, capsized near an area ominously known as Devil’s Throat.
The overloaded vessel, carrying six people despite being approved for only five, was hit by a powerful wave on its way back to shore, causing it to sink abruptly.
Interesting details emerging following the accident, according to police reports, reveal the influencers had reportedly refused to wear life jackets.
They had refused to wear the life-saving jackets because they did not want the equipment to obstruct their photos or interfere with tanning.
Commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino confirmed that the sinking occurred on Sept. 29 when a large wave struck the vessel, triggering panic as passengers were thrown into the water.
While one survivor, Vanessa, managed to grab onto nearby rocks, another, Camila, was able to stay afloat by clinging to a life jacket.
Beatriz’s body was discovered soon after the accident, while Aline, who was unable to swim, was found a week later on Itaquitanduva Beach.
Before the tragic event, Aline had shared images from the boat, capturing what would be her final moments at sea.
The two influencers, known for their social media presence, were well-recognized figures, with Beatriz also working as a model and CrossFit trainer.
The group had reportedly spent the day celebrating aboard a luxury yacht, drinking and enjoying themselves before transferring to the smaller boat, where the accident took place.
Authorities have launched an investigation to understand the full circumstances of the sinking, including whether negligence played a role.
For now, the families of Aline and Beatriz are left mourning an unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
