Following Donald Trump’s recent 2024 election victory, Whoopi Goldberg took a stand on The View, offering a message of resilience and hope to viewers while refusing to acknowledge Trump by name.
On the November 6 episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin gathered to discuss Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. All six women voted for Harris, including outspoken Republican and former Trump aide Griffin.
Speaking to her co-hosts and the audience, Whoopi began by emphasizing a fundamental belief that had guided her throughout the campaign season: the significance of participating in elections without instructing anyone on whom to back.
So what happened last night?” Goldberg asked her co-hosts.
“We said to people vote. We didn’t tell people who to vote for,” she emphasized. “I did not because I wanted to make sure people exercise that right. Too many people that I know died trying to vote.”
She also took a moment to commend the efforts of Vice President Kamala Harris. Reflecting on Harris’s hard work, Whoopi Goldberg noted, “She did this in two months. She did what she did. She was everywhere. She talked to everybody.”
After expressing her admiration for Kamala Harris’ relentless campaign, Goldberg acknowledged, “People didn’t come out, I don’t know why, and it doesn’t even matter. He’s now the president.” She then added, “I’m still not going to say his name. That’s not going to change.”
“What I’m not alright with is to wreck the country further.”
“When I got out of the car… I saw people living their lives,” Whoopi Goldberg said, describing a small yet impactful moment that reminded her of the resilience of ordinary people. For Whoopi, this was the takeaway she wanted to leave with her audience: “And that’s what we have to do.”
Whoopi Goldberg has refused to say Trump’s name on “The View” since he first took office in 2016, explaining that she “can’t” bring herself to put the word “President” before the name Trump. She has only broken her self-set rule a few times, including intentionally after his conviction on 34 felony counts and unintentionally after Trump debated with Joe Biden in June.
