A Memphis Thanksgiving turned violent when 55-year-old Lachunda Johnson was arrested for allegedly stabbing her daughter and grandson during a heated argument at a family dinner.
The incident occurred on Delta Road in southwest Memphis around 3 p.m. According to police, tensions escalated after Johnson reportedly pushed her grandson aggressively, sparking a verbal altercation with her daughter.
The dispute spiraled out of control when Johnson retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed her daughter in the hand. She then stabbed her grandson in the hand near his thumb before fleeing the scene on foot.
Johnson managed to get several blocks away before being apprehended by Memphis police. Witnesses at the scene, still in shock, described the aftermath as unsettling.
“It’s just unfortunate to see this happen on a day meant for family and gratitude,” said neighbor James Stevens.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities noted that Johnson appeared heavily intoxicated during the incident.
Johnson now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, domestic violence, and domestic assault. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Memphis police have urged families to remain vigilant, emphasizing the need for peaceful conflict resolution during holiday gatherings.
