Black Woman and Teenage Son Killed in Murder-Suicide by Her Ex-Boyfriend

Bainbridge, Georgia, is mourning the tragic loss of 36-year-old Shendora Adams and her 19-year-old son, Tyiun, who were killed in a Thanksgiving Day murder-suicide.

Authorities report that Adams’ ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Jamar Calloway, shot both victims at their home before fleeing to Ocala, Florida, where he took his own life.

The tragedy underscores a devastating history of domestic violence. Shendora’s sister, Tynesia Wilson, shared that Calloway, despite being evicted from Adams’ home multiple times and under a restraining order, returned to carry out the fatal attack.

“My sister was in the process of leaving. He would go nowhere. Like she done put him out several times,” Wilson told WALB.

Tyiun, a senior at Bainbridge High School with aspirations of becoming a truck driver, had often intervened to protect his mother during previous domestic disputes. He stepped in again on Thanksgiving morning, trying to shield her from harm.

“When it came to his mom and sister, he’s going (to) protect them with everything he’s got,” Wilson said.

Records from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department reveal a history of domestic violence complaints involving Calloway, who had faced battery charges in 2017 for an incident with another victim.

The family is left reeling from the heartbreaking loss of both Shendora and Tyiun. “I’m hurt. I want to know why he did it. Why he couldn’t just leave her alone?” Wilson asked through tears.

Tyiun’s classmates and teachers at Bainbridge High School remember him as a kind and ambitious young man, whose future was tragically cut short. The community is rallying around the family to offer support during this difficult time.

For many in the community, the tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of domestic violence.
