Real Housewives of Atlanta star Angela Oakley was quick to set the record straight after her husband, Charles Oakley, recently caused a major stir with a surprising comment about his wedding to her, suggesting he might have been “drugged” before tying the knot.

When it comes to jokes, Charles Oakley might want to leave the punchlines to the comedians, especially when the topic is his marriage.

The former NBA enforcer recently raised eyebrows during a livestream interview when he casually joked that he “might’ve been drugged” the night he married his wife, reality star Angela Oakley. While the remark was made in a laid-back tone, the internet lit up, and not in a good way.

Charles made the eyebrow-raising comment during an appearance on the Relationships Matter podcast. When asked how he ended up tying the knot with Angela, Charles gave a wild off-the-cuff answer:

“That’s gonna be the billion-dollar question because it wasn’t planned. We were in Vegas. We just did it…I don’t know. I told someone I think someone might have put something in my drink that night, but I don’t know.”

Social media did a collective pause. Some fans thought it was dry humor. Others felt it was flat-out disrespectful, especially considering how Angela has been opening up more about their relationship on the current season of RHOA. Either way, Angela wasn’t amused.

The moment made its way to Angela’s Instagram, where she put Charles on the spot, asking him to clear things up publicly.

Charles, doing some much-needed damage control, admitted:

“I was just trying to be funny. Some people took it, some people didn’t.”

Angela wasn’t buying it.

“No, you’re not funny. It’s not funny,” she told him.

She went on to remind both Charles and their followers that he was the one who proposed, and the two did plan to get married in Las Vegas. The story, according to Angela, had zero drugs, zero confusion, and zero comedy.

Despite the awkward exchange, the Oakleys seem to be holding it down. They laughed off the tension in the end and even teased plans for their own joint podcast, where they’ll presumably keep it real and hopefully, keep it respectful.
