Beyoncé Producer Found Dead at 49 in Harlem Apartment

Sidney “Omen” Brown, the Grammy-winning producer celebrated for his work with Beyoncé, Drake, and other music heavyweights, has died at age 49.

Brown was discovered unresponsive in his East Harlem apartment on Sept. 13 by a family member who went to check on him after he missed his shift at Barawine Harlem, where he had worked for more than a decade.

“He was holistic and healthy. So we don’t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden,” his sister, Nicole Iris Brown, told NBC News.

A Career That Shaped Hip-Hop and R&B

Professionally known as Omen, Brown built a name for himself producing for some of the biggest names in music. A Harlem native, he became connected with Roc-A-Fella Records, solidifying his presence in the rap industry.

In 2013, Omen earned credits as a producer, programmer, lyricist, and composer on Beyoncé and Drake’s collaboration “Mine.” His portfolio also includes work with Usher, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, and Action Bronson.

Omen won a Grammy Award in 2007 for his contribution to Ludacris’ album Release Therapy, which took home Best Rap Album of the Year.

Mentor and DJ

Outside of the studio, Omen was deeply respected for mentoring up-and-coming artists.

“I hope people will remember that he was willing to help the younger generation,” his sister said. “He was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about just the music, no matter who the artist was.”

Alongside producing, Omen remained a fixture in New York City’s nightlife scene, working as a DJ at Barawine Harlem, where colleagues say he became family.

In a heartfelt statement, the bar shared:

“Omen was part of Barawine’s team for over a decade bringing his unique talent to all. There are not enough words to express our feelings. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, his friends and all who love him.”

The cause of death has not been disclosed.
