Monroe Cannon, the 14-year-old daughter of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, is making her feelings known. Recently, she took to Instagram Stories to clarify her perspective on her large and well-known blended family, sparking considerable discussion online.
In a brief yet impactful statement, Monroe wrote, “Clearing something up, guys, I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon.” She added, “I do have other half-siblings from my dad, but they are all many, many years younger than me!” This candid expression shifted the atmosphere on social media.
Monroe, along with her twin brother Moroccan, was born in 2011 during the marriage of Mariah and Nick, who were once a prominent couple. After their divorce in 2016, Nick became widely recognized not only for his diverse career as a host but also for expanding his family extensively. He is now a father of 12, with children at varying ages and from different relationships.
However, her comments struck a chord online, as some fans interpreted them as a commentary on the complexities of blended families, particularly when there’s a significant age difference among siblings. Others accused her of throwing “shade,” even though she didn’t call anyone out by name or speak negatively about her half-siblings. There was also a peculiar debate over the use of the term “half-siblings.”
Interestingly, Nick Cannon hasn’t responded publicly to Monroe’s comments.
In the meantime, the ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ superstar recently played it cool when questioned about their co-parenting relationship, sidestepping the inquiry by stating, “I think it’s better if I don’t discuss him since he can just exist in his own space…no disrespect to him.”
