Just two weeks after a 19-year-old woman was fatally shot in West Memphis, Arkansas, another woman has been killed, leaving four children behind.
Twenty-eight-year-old Christian Hammock was found dead inside a gray Nissan Sentra outside a BP gas station Sunday. She died from a single gunshot wound, according to police officials.
“Detectives made the scene and began their investigation into this incident,” reads a statement from West Memphis Police. “It was determined that the shooting took place in the 300 block of West Jefferson which required Detectives to work multiple scenes.
“I can’t believe my best friend is gone. This is tragic for her kids, family, and friends,” said Hammock’s friend who chose to remain anonymous.
Two suspects have been linked to Hammock’s murder: 18-year-old Caleb Moten and 21-year-old Montique Hill have both been charged with capital murder, terroristic activity, and two counts of aggravated assault.
A friend of Hammock is hoping that the murderers face maximum punishment to the fullest extent of the law.
“I pray that whoever did this face the consequence to the max because her death is unjustifiable, and she didn’t deserve this,” Hammock’s friend said.
He added that Hammock was a warm and friendly woman who everyone loved to be around.
“She was fun to be around. Never a dull moment. Anytime I was down, feeling like giving up, she was right there to reassure me that better days was to come.”
Hammock is preceded in death by her aunts, Latasha Jones and Mildred Carter: uncles, Lamont Jones, Fredrick Harris, Travis Hammock, James Shearins, according to her obituary.
She leaves four children behind: Chancey Hammock, D’Zariah Dixon, Thomayia Hammock and Tyler Jones; parents; Jerome and Brandi Hammock; sister Rickita Chalk-Hicks; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
West Memphis Police say her murder is still an active investigation. Anyone with information regarding her death is asked to contact the West Memphis Police Department at 870-735-1210.
